Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi proposes monetary incentives for individuals who provide information about assets connected to corruption

Iraq’s Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi announced Sunday that citizens who report assets and public funds obtained through corruption will receive “substantial financial rewards.”

In a statement reported by the state news agency INA, the prime minister’s office called on citizens to “report assets and public funds obtained through corruption, in order to contribute to their discovery, recovery, and return to the state.”

The announcement comes as the government intensifies an anti-graft campaign that began in late May with the arrest of Adnan Al-Jumaili, Iraq’s deputy minister of oil and refining affairs, alongside several associates. That initial operation uncovered hundreds of millions of dollars in embezzled funds, OCCRP previously reported. Authorities have since detained dozens of senior officials and politicians in what state media described as one of the largest anti-graft sweeps in recent history.

Separately, the Iraqi Ministry of Justice announced it has recovered more than $25 million in looted public funds over the past two years.
