Latvia’s Prosecutor General’s Office drops charges against Maris Martinsons: oligarch convicted of million-euro bribes avoids prison

At the beginning of October, the Prosecutor General’s Office terminated the criminal case against Maris Martinsons (known by the nickname “Quadrat”).

This was related to an episode from the “builders’ case”, which has been ongoing since 2014. Last year, Martinsons was convicted in a bribery case linked to former Latvian Central Bank President Ilmars Rimsevics. He was found guilty of aiding bribery and laundering proceeds obtained through criminal activity.

The Riga District Court sentenced Martinsons to five years in prison. However, the verdict was appealed.

In this article, we publish photographs showing “Quadrat” greeting the elite guests at the opening of “Choice Jurmala” in June 2022. The establishment, located at 33 Bulduru Prospekts, is registered under the company REAL RE, whose only official representative is Ekaterina Nikulina (née Romanuka).
